Summary of the role

Allianz Trade Specialty Credit Mid Term is seeking a Credit Underwriting Regional Manager with experience in Export Trade Finance &/or Structured Credit to deploy and steer its credit portfolio.

This manager will lead a dedicated credit underwriting team that identifies, reviews, and underwrites credit opportunities originated through Specialty Credit Mid Term regional hubs located in London, New York, Singapore, and Paris. The role also plays a key part in constructing and effectively managing the Specialty Credit Mid Term portfolio.

The incumbent will possess over 10 years of senior credit underwriting experience in banks, trade credit insurance, export credit agencies, multilaterals, or single‑risk medium‑term credit insurance departments (e.g., CPRI market), with a focus on structured trade finance, infrastructure, and/or project finance. The position is part of a 20‑plus credit team.

Responsibilities

1. Specialty Expertise Leadership

  • Leads the underwriting of key transactions in various specialty product areas.
  • Builds a robust underwriting framework in specialty mid‑term expertise.
  • Leads the advisory, definition and monitoring of underwriting guidelines in specialty mid‑term.
  • Establishes an authority matrix with defined senior authority levels.

2. Team Management & Performance

  • Accountable for a proactive and impactful underwriting service, ensuring a “right answer first time” towards origination and customer relationships within the specialty credit franchise.
  • Sets up and defines an efficient work organization for its dedicated regional hub in collaboration with the SC MT Credit Director.
  • Manages a team of selected SC underwriters from diverse seniority and background located in the UK specialty credit hub, including target setting, training needs, and individual performance steering.
  • Can operate under delegated authority to validate credit limits or act as deputy in high‑level internal and external meetings if the SC Credit Director is absent.

3. Collaborative Leadership

  • Serves as the key 4‑eye expert for first‑instance underwriting decisions within the specialty.
  • Trains underwriters and shares expertise across junior, senior, and other departments.
  • Is empowered to take ownership of cross‑expertise and cross‑department projects.
  • Fosters collaborative decision‑making with other specialty leads and the Credit Director.
Requirements and Skills

Qualifications

  • University degree, preferably at master’s level; recognised financial analyst qualifications are advantageous.
  • More than 10 years’ experience in trade credit insurance, banking, multilaterals, ECAs, or single‑risk medium‑term credit insurance departments (CPRI), preferably with exposure to corporates, infrastructure, and trade finance.
  • Strong analytical skills – corporate, financial, sectorial, ESG and political risk, and transactional analysis – and experience with corporates across a variety of sectors.
  • Ability to make credit decisions.
  • Proficiency in reviewing and commenting on loan documentation, including complex legal structures.
