We are seeking an experienced part‑time (32 hours / 4 days per week) Specialty Doctor to work at Cygnet Lodge Brighouse and provide psychiatric care in our mental health rehabilitation service for men.

Main duties of the job

Cygnet Lodge Brighouse is a high‑support inpatient rehabilitation (level 2) service for men, with a capacity of 21 beds in a relaxed, calm, and homely environment. The focus is on preparing individuals for discharge or supporting longer‑term optimal functioning.

Job responsibilities
  • Provide routine medical and psychiatric support, including initial clerking and mental state examination of newly admitted patients
  • Carry out assessment, appropriate investigation, diagnosis and treatment of inpatients under Consultant supervision
  • Maintain good communication with ward nursing staff, mental health professionals and other agencies as required
  • Participate in weekly ward rounds and multidisciplinary meetings, including CPA, Tribunal hearings & Section 117 meetings
  • Maintain full records of medical and psychiatric assessments and interventions
  • Prepare discharge summaries in line with company policies and guidelines
  • Attend all mandatory training (e.g. BLS, ILS, Breakaway training/PMVA training, Moving and Transferring, Infection Control, H&S)
  • Communicate effectively through regular contact with patients, relatives, staff, directors, and other concerned bodies; maintain appropriate reports
  • Participate in the duty doctor on‑call rota as required by regional needs

Our CESR programme

This programme will help you develop the skills you need to progress to Consultant level. You’ll rotate within wards/services to gain valuable experience across various subspecialties, have an educational supervisor to review your progress, and receive support with MRCPsych exams.

Qualifications and experience
  • Fully GMC registered & MBBS (or equivalent) qualified
  • Registered on the specialist register (CCT/CESR), Section 12 and AC Status
  • Experienced & knowledgeable in Neuropsychiatry
  • Knowledgeable of the Mental Health Act, Code of Practice, Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Code of Capacity
  • First‑rate communicator with strong interview, assessment and treatment skills; able to write clear, comprehensive medical notes
  • Committed to continued professional development
  • Able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) or equivalent
