Overview

A new opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and experienced speech and language therapist to join our multidisciplinary team in Chorley & South Ribble to provide a high quality service to children with speech, language and communication difficulties across the locality.

The post-holder will have a community caseload of children and will be required to contribute assessment findings as part of the neurodevelopmental pathway for children under 5 years. The role will include work within special schools as well as working with children with complex needs within the community setting; experience of working with this cohort and within these settings is essential.

As part of the role you will be expected to
  • Be responsible for all aspects of the management of an identified specialist caseload of children with speech, language and communication needs, attending special school provision and other educational settings. Including assessment, diagnosis, intervention, training for parents/carers and professionals, contribution to multidisciplinary team working, provision of EHCPs and creating individualised management and treatment plans, using clinical reasoning and utilising a range of evidence based treatment skills
  • Provide assessment of social communication needs in line with the Trust’s neuro developmental pathway
  • Provide clinical supervision for junior speech and language therapists and / or assistants
  • Participate in the clinical education of speech and language therapy students

The Team

The team comprises of Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Physiotherapists and therapy assistants. We work closely with colleagues in health, education and social care to provide a genuinely child-centred service.

The successful applicants will be able to work closely with experienced Specialist Speech and Language Therapy colleagues in a supportive environment.

Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust provides a range of services including secondary mental health care across this area. Specialist provision comprises inpatient child and adolescent mental health services, perinatal mental health and forensic services including low and medium secure care.

The Trust also provides a range of physical health and well-being services in the community alongside a range of partners in the Lancashire, Cumbria and Sefton area.
