Job description
Job Overview

Senior Specialist Pharmacist Medicines Advice & Medicines Use & Safety (Band 8a). Permanent, 1.0 WTE, fully remote work expected. Hosted by Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust within NHS Specialist Pharmacy Service (SPS).

Location: Liverpool (remote working from anywhere). Salary: £55,690 - £62,682 per annum. Hours: 37.5 hours per week. Job reference: 287-PPU-8-25. Department: LUH - 1 General Staffing (AFC posts). Site: Pharmacy Practice Unit.

Main duties
  • Sit within the Medicines Advice (MA) and Medicines Use and Safety (MUS) functions of the NHS Specialist Pharmacy Service; deliver against the workplan of both functions, including pan-SPS projects.
  • Contribute to development, delivery and maintenance of quality assured MA and MUS resources to support commissioners, organisations and health professionals (webinars, podcasts, videos, website articles and NHS Futures workspaces).
  • Support senior colleagues with information to manage national drug shortages and the Medicines Awareness Daily Bulletin (MAD).
  • Answer medication-related queries including those on medicines supply issues, PGDs and other medicines mechanisms and medication safety.
About SPS and teams

Medicines Use and Safety (MUS) and Medicines Advice (MA) teams provide guidance, support, and resources to NHS organisations and practitioners to promote safe medicines use and medicines optimisation across the pathway.

Detailed responsibilities
  • Work within MA and MUS to deliver against the SPS workplan and pan-SPS projects.
  • Develop and maintain MA and MUS resources (web content, webinars, podcasts, articles) and ensure quality standards.
  • Collaborate with SPS Digital Team to create and update online content in line with NHS Digital and gov.uk content standards.
  • Respond to medication-related queries and support medicines safety initiatives.
Person specification
Qualifications
  • Vocational masters degree in pharmacy or equivalent.
  • Pharmacist registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or other relevant field or equivalent experience in a specialist area.
Experience
  • Diploma-level experience in clinical pharmacy across diverse settings.
  • Multidisciplinary working across professional groups and organisations.
  • Significant experience delivering medicines advice to healthcare professionals.
  • Experience supporting management of medicines shortages and NHS supply issues.
Knowledge
  • In-depth knowledge of medicines optimisation for primary and secondary care.
  • Understanding of roles of other healthcare professionals in healthcare delivery.
  • Knowledge of programme and project management and current NHS policy application.
  • Awareness of SPS medicines advice across the NHS and how it supports medicines optimisation.
