Job description

As a Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Nurse within the South Perinatal team, you will provide high‑quality, evidence‑based specialist advice, assessment and interventions to women with severe or complex mental health conditions who are planning pregnancy, pregnant or have a child under one.

  • Provide specialist advice, consultation, liaison and education to professionals who work with women contemplating pregnancy and during the perinatal period.
  • Hold a small caseload of the most complex, high‑risk cases and assist the development of skills, knowledge and understanding regarding the risks associated with this client group with internal and external partners.
  • Attend perinatal referral and clinical meetings to offer support and participate in clinical decision‑making.
  • Take a lead role in ensuring that a high standard of multi‑disciplinary care planning is in place and be accountable for the nursing contribution to the process.
  • Ensure that the nursing team provides accurate and high‑quality patient records.
  • Encourage and develop user and carer involvement.
  • Support the Directorate with the investigation process and learning lessons from serious incidents and complaints.
  • Undertake any other duties which may reasonably be required by the Service.
  • Support the manager in developing and implementing change within the team.
  • Be part of the continual development of the Countywide Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Service in line with the NHS Long Term Plan.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of Perinatal Mental Health Training and Education to other staffing groups.
  • Travel independently across the county to meet service needs; requires a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
