Job description

Are you ready to shape the future of environmental regulation in Wales? This is a rare and exciting opportunity to help shape how regulation evolves in Wales. As part of NRW's Future Regulation team, you'll be at the forefront of legislative and regulatory change, influencing Welsh and UK Government agendas, translating policy into practice, and helping NRW deliver smarter, more effective regulation that's fit for the future. You'll work across a wide range of current and emerging regulatory areas, bringing fresh thinking and strategic insight to some of the most important environmental challenges of our time.

You’ll lead innovative projects that test new approaches to compliance, develop evidence strategies, and embed our Regulatory Principles across the organisation. You’ll provide expert advice to senior leaders and government officials, collaborate with internal teams and external partners across the UK and internationally, and act as a catalyst for change, with the overarching aim of helping us improve regulatory outcomes for our customers, stakeholders, and for the benefit of people and nature.

Who we're looking for

You’ll be someone who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and can confidently manage multiple projects. You might have experience across different regulatory regimes, or transferable skills that bring fresh perspectives to our work.

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship‑building skills.
  • Excellent communication and ICT capabilities.
  • Strategic thinking and the ability to deliver successful outcomes.
  • A passion for improving how regulation works for our customers, stakeholders, and the environment.
  • Experience of establishing and building relationships with a wide‑variety of partners, across Wales, the UK and Europe.
About us

You’ll be part of a diverse and experienced Future Regulation team within NRW's Evidence, Policy and Permitting Directorate. Working to the Future Regulation Team Leader, you’ll help to drive real change for Wales' natural environment. You’ll work on high-impact projects, influence national policy, and help shape the future of regulation in a way that supports nature's recovery, tackles climate change, and minimises pollution.

We offer flexible working, career development opportunities, and the chance to be part of a supportive, purpose-driven team and organisation.
