Specialist Children's Nurse Special Schools

The closing date is 14 October 2025

The post holder will be a Registered Nurse (RN12 - NMC) with either a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (School Nursing) qualification or a Registered Children's Nurse qualification. They will hold responsibility for an allocated caseload, providing assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of care, while being professionally and legally accountable for their practice.

Main duties of the job

Work as part of the Special School Nursing Team, line managing Community Staff Nurses, Community Nursery Nurses and Support Staff, coordinating and delegating work as appropriate.

Identify and assess the health needs of school-aged children and families, particularly within SEND units and ARPs in mainstream schools, and deliver care in partnership with Primary Care, Education, Children's Services, the Voluntary Sector and other agencies.

Actively contribute to safeguarding by prioritising attendance at case conferences, reviews and planning meetings in line with Havering\'s Safeguarding Children\'s Board requirements.

Provide comprehensive case conference and court reports as required, ensuring timely and accurate information sharing.

Deliver a continuum of support to reduce health inequalities and improve outcomes for children and families, in line with national strategies and local priorities.

Act as the principal point of contact for a caseload of schools with SEND units and ARPs, building cooperative relationships with education staff to promote positive health outcomes.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period.

Starting with NELFT

NELFT places great importance on new starters being properly welcomed into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks, including mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process, new starters will also have the opportunity to meet the executive team, senior managers, and attend several drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing, and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

High Cost Area Supplement - Outer London

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,714 to a maximum of £5,941p.a. pro rata for part time).
