Job description
Overview

We have an exciting preceptorship development position for either a newly qualified Clinical/Counselling Psychologist/CBT therapist looking for a post with potential career progression, OR for an experienced Band 7/8A ready to apply directly for an 8A post. The successful candidate will join our friendly community mental health team, in the Greenwich Early Intervention in Psychosis Service. You will be part of an MDT helping the EIP service support the needs of people experiencing a range of psychosis related difficulties. We welcome applications from Clinical Psychologists who are in their final year of doctoral training, and those seeking career development to build specialist skills in line with the roles set out below. For preceptorship applicants, successful completion (formal log of competencies) usually over 18–36 months will lead to a Band 7 post progressing to Band 8a. Main duties
  • Provide specialist psychological assessments of clients referred to the EIP Mental Health Service, using interpretation and integration of complex data from various sources (tests, self-report measures, rating scales, observations, interviews with clients, families and others).
  • Formulate and implement plans for formal psychological treatment and/or management of clients' mental health problems across the full range of care settings.
  • Deliver a range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, across teams, refining formulations drawing on different explanatory models.
  • Deliver NICE-approved CBTp and Family Interventions for Psychosis; facilitate groups for clients and carers.
  • Evaluate treatment options considering theoretical and therapeutic models and complex factors shaping individuals, families or groups.
  • Exercise autonomous professional responsibility for assessment, treatment and discharge of clients managed by psychologically based care plans.
  • Provide specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing to formulation, diagnosis and treatment plans.
  • Ensure the treating team has access to a psychologically grounded framework for understanding and care, including dissemination of psychological research and theory.
  • Undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual clients and provide guidance on psychological aspects of risk assessment, including safeguarding responsibilities.
  • Communicate complex information clearly to clients, families and colleagues and monitor progress during uni- and multi-disciplinary care.
  • Provide expertise, advice and support to facilitate effective psychological care across the treatment team.
Person Specification

Essential

  • Postgraduate Doctorate in Clinical/Counselling Psychology (or equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS or Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist.
  • Registered with Health and Care Professions Council as a Practitioner Psychologist or BABCP.
  • Willingness to undertake Advanced Training in CBTp if not completed.

Desirable

  • Pre-qualification training in research methodology, staff training or other applied psychology fields.
  • Advanced Diploma in CBT (for Psychosis or SMI).
  • HEE-approved training in Family Interventions for Psychosis.
