Job summary

A healthcare institution in Gobowen is seeking a HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist to join their Blood Sciences department. Responsibilities include providing a diagnostic service, maintaining laboratory standards, and supporting continuous professional development. The ideal candidate will have experience in Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology, or Blood Transfusion and the ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team. This position involves participation in an out-of-hours service.

Qualifications

  • Maintain the laboratory to UKAS standards.

Overview

A vacancy at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, to join the Blood Sciences department at Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Hospital (RJAH).

Responsibilities
  • Assist with the provision of a diagnostic service as part of a 37.5‑hour working week, mostly Monday to Friday with occasional weekend work.
  • Understand, organise and perform a range of laboratory procedures compatible with the training and qualifications of a HCPC‑registered Biomedical Scientist.
  • Attain proficiency in Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology and Blood Transfusion to support a 24‑hour, 7‑day Blood Science service.
  • Participate in the out‑of‑hours service either as a lone worker or as a team leader.
  • Deputise for Senior BMS staff in their absence and take lead responsibility for a specialist section of the department as required.
  • Maintain the laboratory to UKAS standards and support continuous professional development.
Qualifications
  • HCPC‑registered Biomedical Scientist with relevant post‑registration experience.
  • Experience in Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology or Blood Transfusion is desirable.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
