Role Overview

Join Turing House School, an inclusive and high‑achieving secondary and sixth‑form setting in Twickenham, dedicated to possibility, excellence, and supporting every pupil to reach their full potential. We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Special Educational Needs Teacher (Primary) to provide dedicated, personalised teaching and support for a Year 7 pupil with Down’s Syndrome and complex learning needs.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a personalised curriculum suitable for a Year 7 pupil working at approximately Year 1 level
  • Use assessment and observation to monitor progress and adapt teaching approaches responsively
  • Collaborate closely with the SENCo, teaching assistants, families, and external professionals
  • Deliver high‑quality, engaging lessons that maintain high expectations and promote pupil independence
  • Manage behaviour effectively to ensure a safe and positive learning environment
  • Maintain professional communication with parents and carers
  • Participate in school meetings, training, and contribute to the wider school community
  • Undertake PPA time for planning, preparation, and assessment
  • Adhere strictly to safeguarding and school policies
Personal Statement & Application Requirements

Candidates must attach a personal statement of no more than two pages of A4, typed in Arial 11 point or equivalent, addressing the key areas in the person specification.

  • Expertise in Special Educational Needs (SEND) with a strong understanding of teaching pupils with complex learning needs, particularly Down’s Syndrome
  • Experience in primary education curriculum design and delivery
  • Proven ability to adapt teaching methods responsively while maintaining high expectations
  • Excellent communication skills for building positive relationships with pupils, parents, and colleagues
  • Experience working collaboratively with multi‑disciplinary teams
  • Commitment to supporting pupil wellbeing and inclusion

Note: Applications from experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs) with a proven track record in curriculum design and teaching experience are also welcomed.
