Band 5 Special Care Baby Unit Nurse - 30.00 - CIC
As a Band 5 nurse you are expected to provide family‑centred, developmentally appropriate care to preterm and unwell babies. You will be required to work towards achieving your Qualification in the Speciality of the nursing care of neonates, learn to manage care of special care, high dependency and stabilisation and transfer of babies requiring intensive care treatment. You will also be required to complete Newborn Life Support training and Family and Infant Neurodevelopment Education (FINE) training. There is an expectation that you support students on the ward and liaise effectively with the multidisciplinary team.
You will manage and provide all aspects of patient care, assessing care needs, developing, implementing and evaluating programmes of care for the babies and their families. You need to liaise effectively with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) and apply family‑centred care as a basic principle. The trust operates an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy and you will practice according to its principles and in accordance with the NMC code of conduct and record‑keeping guidelines. You will work alongside the nurse in charge, the MDT and the Northern Neonatal Network team to make the best possible decisions for babies and their families. You are expected to manage care in accordance with infection prevention and control guidelines and support the nurse in change to ensure a safe environment for the babies while maintaining knowledge and competency of the neonatal equipment. Fundamentally, you are expected to advocate for the baby and their family.
