An opportunity has arisen for a committed Nurse to join the Interventional Radiology team at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. We seek a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, committed to patient-centred, evidence-based care. You will rotate around three sites (LGI, SJUH, and Bexley Wing) and develop your knowledge of radiology-based procedures as an interventional radiology nurse. Responsibilities include caring for conscious patients undergoing elective and acute, diagnostic, and complex multi-organ vascular procedures such as embolisation, angioplasty, stenting, nephrostomy insertion, tumour ablations, and stroke thrombectomy. This position is advertised as Band 6 annex 21, primarily for candidates currently at Band 5 aiming to develop specialist skills and progress to a Band 6 role. All candidates will be considered based on experience, knowledge, and skills.
This training role offers an excellent opportunity to develop key skills, especially in scrubbing to assist with theatre procedures. You'll be involved in perioperative patient care, including administering IV medication and post-operative care such as sheath removal. The role requires collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, including consultants, radiographers, and healthcare professionals. A radiology development pathway is available to support your growth, helping you gain competencies for the Band 6 Specialist Peri-Operative Practitioner role, with training lasting up to 24 months. As you progress, you'll work on call across both sites. This role is ideal for those pursuing a career in radiology theatres, offering essential competencies under the guidance of experienced colleagues. You'll build specialist knowledge, preparing for a Senior Peri-Operative Practitioner role. You'll deliver high-quality patient care while ensuring resource efficiency. After training, you will lead a subspecialty within Interventional Radiology, such as neurology or infection control, and contribute to improving patient care, theatre performance, and quality.
Leeds Teaching Hospitals has one of the largest Interventional Radiology departments in the UK, serving as a regional, national, and international centre for innovative treatments. This is an exciting opportunity to develop new clinical skills through a structured mentoring and preceptorship programme tailored to your learning needs. You will rotate around three sites (SJUH, LGI, Bexley Wing) and gain insight into the specialist nursing role within Interventional Radiology. The department operates across Leeds General Infirmary and St. James Hospital, with typical working hours from Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00.

1. JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY
The experienced practitioner will coordinate activities within the peri-operative environment, ensuring effective communication, supporting qualified and unqualified staff, and assessing patient care needs. You will assist in leading and teaching peri-operative teams, act as a role model, and promote evidence-based practice. You will work within a peri-operative environment, supporting the development and evaluation of care programs.

3. PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Understand the organisational structure, local and national peri-operative agenda, and Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust policies. Maintain high standards of patient-focused care, act as a clinical role model, and support the management of clinical services and staff deployment. Participate in theatre on-call rota, safeguard vulnerable populations, and report risks or malpractice according to policies. Undertake duties on other wards or departments as needed.
Education and Training: Contribute to a positive learning environment, ensure staff have development plans, participate in mandatory training, and undertake professional development.
Managerial: Provide leadership, support staffing and rostering, investigate incidents, promote research, and participate in appraisals. Support role development and deputise for the Team Leader.
Health and Safety/Risk Management: Comply with policies, report incidents, and maintain safety standards.
Patient and Public Involvement: Engage in service evaluation and improvements based on patient feedback.
Respect for Confidentiality: Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.

Experience: Significant post-registration peri-operative experience, insight into clinical specialty, and surgical experience.
Qualifications: Registered Nurse, recognized teaching/assessing qualification, or working towards it.
Other Criteria: Ability to meet occupational health requirements, including blood-borne virus clearance.
