Overview

Astute's Renewables team is proudly partnered with a global leader in the solar energy market, focusing on the UK utility-scale solar market. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Solar PV Field Service Engineer to join their expanding technical team, providing advanced diagnostics and system integration support. This position is field-based and offers a basic salary of up to £50,000, with a comprehensive and impressive benefits package. Proven experience within large-scale / utility-scale solar is essential to achieve the top end of the salary bracket. This role offers significant career progression through internal succession planning, focused on developing Field Engineers into management or specialist technical roles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Reporting to the Regional Team Leader, you will act as the senior technical resource for the region, focusing on advanced problem-solving and system integrity.
  • Advanced Fault Diagnosis & System Optimisation: Execute complex planned and reactive maintenance across a variety of ground-mount solar assets.
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Conduct deep-level technical analysis and fault-tracing on both AC and DC systems to identify root causes and implement permanent corrective actions.
  • System Integrity & Testing: Lead all high-level testing, inspection (including 2391 sign-off), and commissioning of electrical systems, ensuring maximum output efficiency.
  • Third-Party and Specialist Liaison: Serve as the primary technical point of contact, liaising with specialist equipment suppliers (inverters, transformers) to develop and implement complex troubleshooting protocols.
  • Technical Reporting & Documentation: Prepare detailed daily technical reports on work carried out, including recommendations for long-term system improvements.
  • Safety and Compliance Leadership: Maintain rigorous compliance with all HSE legislation and site regulations, acting as a site safety lead and, when required, supervising third-party contractors.
  • Operational Flexibility: Participate in an occasional weekend rota, compensated with additional pay, and manage occasional working/staying away requirements.
Professional Qualifications and Technical Expertise
  • Utility or Commercial/Industrial Scale Experience: Proven, extensive experience with utility-scale solar PV assets is essential.
  • Electrical Qualifications: Minimum Level 3 electrical qualification (e.g., City & Guilds).
  • Testing & Inspection: Current 2391 or 2394/2395 qualification for testing and inspection.
  • Advanced HV Knowledge: High Voltage (HV) Authorised Person (AP) status is highly desirable.
  • System Components: Strong working knowledge of power electronics, including HV/LV transformers and inverters.

  • Salary: Up to £50,000 (depending on utility-scale experience and qualifications).
