Job description

Barclays is seeking an experienced Software Engineer, UI to join our Customer Care team. This role is within the Collections and Recoveries domain, creating user-friendly experiences for our clients. It involves leading UI development, mentoring junior colleagues, and contributing to full‑stack solutions using modern technologies.

What you should have
  • Experience in Java development, including Spring Boot and microservices architecture.
  • Previous experience in JavaScript and modern front‑end frameworks (React or Angular).
  • Demonstrable experience in UI development and leading a development team, familiarity with cloud‑based development and DevOps practices.
Highly valued skills
  • Experience in financial services or banking domain (highly desirable). Solid experience with AWS cloud services.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins or GitLab. Knowledge of TypeScript for modern web development.

This is a hybrid role and will be located at our Knutsford office.

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.

Accountabilities
  • Development and delivery of high‑quality software solutions by using industry‑aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools, ensuring code is scalable, maintainable, and optimised for performance.
  • Cross‑functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participation in code reviews, and promotion of a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organisation’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit‑testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
