A local government authority in Halifax is looking for a qualified social worker to join its Mental Health Social Work Team. This role supports adults living with mental health conditions and includes responsibilities such as conducting assessments and facilitating support plans. This is an exciting time to join Calderdale Council’s Adult Social Care Teams. Calderdale Council is the most improved adult social services Directorate in Yorkshire Humber, rated Good by CQC following inspection in 2025. An opportunity has arisen to join the Mental Health Social Work Team.
The Mental Health Social Work Team is a well-established team of experienced Social Workers and a Service Coordinator, delivering statutory social work interventions for adults of all ages living with a mental health condition. The team supports people with a wide variety of needs, whether this is during a brief period in someone’s life or on a longer-term basis. The team supports people across the entirety of the Calderdale footprint, including in a hospital, rehabilitation setting, supported living or care placement or their own homes. The team are committed to working collaboratively with partner agencies and community resources, to ensure people receive the right support from the right place at the right time.
We are seeking a qualified social worker who is passionate about adult social care and providing a high-quality service and is keen to develop their professional experience and knowledge. Prior experience in mental health is not essential. Applications are welcome from all qualified social workers ranging from NQSW through to Level 3.
Work expected to be undertaken by the Social Work role but not limited to: care act assessments, support plans, s117 aftercare plans and reviews, safeguarding work, Mental Capacity assessments and Court Work.
The Social Work role will be a key part in ensuring our continued success in fulfilling the Council’s statutory responsibilities under the Care Act 2014. The service is committed to helping people to achieve the outcomes that matter to them in their life and the successful applicant will work closely with colleagues and partner agencies to protect an adult’s right to live in safety, free from abuse and neglect.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. Applicants to posts that are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act will require a DBS from the Disclosure and Barring Service before the appointment is confirmed.
