Salary: £30.50 per hour

Job purpose

To deliver services to children and families in accordance with their assessed needs, and based on the assessment plan which has been agreed to meet those needs, and in accordance with statutory and directorate requirements.

For Fostering Team Social Workers

To recruit, train, assess and support carers to provide for children living away from home.

Qualifications
  • Diploma/Degree in Social Work or predecessor.
  • Social Workers qualifying after 1 April 2016 are required to complete the CPEL within the first three years of practice.
Knowledge
  • Up to date knowledge of current legislation Research and Practice issues in childcare.
  • Recent research and practice issues.
  • Evidence based practice.
Skills
  • Excellent communication skills with children, young people, their families/carers and professionals.
  • A high standard of report and case recording skills.
  • Presentation skills.
  • Motivation and encouragement skills.
  • Able to produce reports to deadlines.
  • Able to undertake and complete assessments and reviews.
  • Sound decision making/judgement skills.
  • Effective case and time management.
  • Ability to identify child/children at risk of actual or likelihood of significant harm.
  • Effective IT skills.
Experience
  • Experience of multi-agency working.
  • Experience of working with children and young people their families and carers.
  • Experience of undertaking assessment work.
  • Experience of working as part of a team.
Other
  • Registered as a Social Worker with Social Care Wales or the Health and Care Professions Council or the Scottish Social Services Council or the Northern Ireland Social Care Council.
  • Flexible attitude, coupled with the ability to adapt approach within changing situations.

  • Prepared to work flexible hours, within and beyond the boundaries of the authority, which may include evenings and weekends.
  • Full UK Category B (Cars) driving licence and the use of a motor vehicle insured for business purposes to travel throughout the borough to attend meetings.
