Social Worker - Family Support and Safeguarding Team, Portsmouth City Council

Location: Portsmouth

Contract: Locum, Full-time (37 hours per week)

As a Social Worker in our Family Support and Safeguarding Team, you will play a key role in supporting families, ensuring children's safety, and promoting positive long-term outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a reasonable caseload of no more than 20 children to ensure effective support.
  • Work with children in need (CiN), child protection (CP), looked after children (LAC), and court proceedings.
  • Conduct thorough assessments and create child-centred plans.
  • Lead safeguarding enquiries and work in partnership with multi-agency professionals.
  • Use a restorative approach to build positive relationships with families and empower them to make changes.
  • Attend regular supervision sessions to develop your skills and receive guidance.
Requirements
  • A Degree in Social Work and Social Work England registration.
  • At least two years of post-qualifying experience in children's services.
  • Strong knowledge of child protection, court work, and relevant legislation (Children Act 1989/2004, Working Together 2018, etc.).
  • The ability to build positive working relationships with children, families, and partner agencies.
  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills, with the ability to present evidence in court.
  • A commitment to anti-oppressive practice and promoting diversity.
