Job Title: Social Sciences Graduate - SEN Support Worker

Are you a Social Sciences graduate (Sociology, Criminology, Education Studies, or related field) who wants to build a rewarding career working with young people? This role offers you the chance to bring your academic knowledge into practice, supporting students with Autism, SEMH, and additional needs in a specialist SEN school in York.

Overview

This role is based in a specialist SEN school in York. The successful candidate will support students with Autism, SEMH and additional needs by applying theoretical knowledge to real-world practice, helping students overcome barriers to learning and develop independence and life skills.

Responsibilities
  • Support students with Autism, SEMH and additional needs in a specialist SEN school in York.
  • Apply theoretical knowledge of society, behaviour, and inclusion to day-to-day practice.
  • Assist students to develop independence and life skills alongside academic progress.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to create inclusive learning environments and adapt activities as needed.
  • Contribute to safeguarding and child protection practices in line with school policies.
Qualifications / Requirements
  • Graduation in Social Sciences (Sociology, Criminology, Education Studies, or related field).
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
  • Willingness to undergo safer recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS via the Update Service.
  • Desire to pursue a career in teaching, youth work, social care, or education policy is advantageous.
