Job description
Location:

Onsite - Yarmouth, Isle of Wight, United Kingdom.

Quay 2 Quay is a recently established company set up to provide passenger ferry services and tours in and around the Solent in the UK. Starting with a service between Lymington and Yarmouth (Isle of Wight), the company intends to offer greater customer choice using a state‑of‑the‑art boat with enclosed and open passenger accommodation.

The Company is looking to hire Boat Masters to assist with these services.

The ideal candidates will have a maritime background and experience in vessel operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform the duties of Boat Master to command, manoeuvre & navigate the vessel.
  • Conduct pre‑deployment checks, equipment testing & weather assessment.
  • Monitor systems and address any operational issues.
  • Command and manage the crew, ensuring the safety of all persons and equipment.
  • Maintain vessels in accordance with maritime regulations and company standards.
  • Implement and oversee safety procedures including risk assessments to safeguard the passengers, crew, the vessel, infrastructure, other vessels and the environment.
Minimum Requirements (MSN 1853 refers):

One of the following:

  • Boat Master License Tier 2 Level 2, including operation in Cat. D waters of the Solent, allowing carriage of up to 112 passengers between Lymington & Yarmouth (IOW); or
  • BML Tier 1 Level 2 plus Special Endorsement for General Passenger Operations; or
  • Suitable alternative qualifications (such as UK issued COC or CEC STCW Master, Chief Mate, OOW, including Royal Navy, STCW II/1 & II/2 and relevant fishing certification with a commitment to achieve the required equivalence (see MSN 1853)).
In addition to the above:
  • Medical certification ENG1 or ML5 - suitable for solo watchkeeping & lookout duties.
  • GMDSS Short Range or Restricted Operators License or higher.
  • MCA approved training in Personal Survival; First Aid; Fire Safety; or
  • Completion of the relevant MSQ units in lieu of the above 3 courses.
  • Competence in navigation, leadership, management, seamanship & maintenance.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to pass background checks.
Desirable

Experience with ferry operations or suitable equivalent; experience in boat handling.

Permanent.

Full time, part time considered.

Salary:

£45k-60k depending on experience.
