Job description
Description

As a Site Reliability Engineer, you will work within the Reliability Team to design, build, and maintain the services and tooling that ensure our platform remains stable, scalable, and observable. You will contribute to the reliability of systems across the entire customer journey, from content delivery to back‑office management systems, ensuring a seamless and dependable experience for our customers and their end‑users. In this role you will adopt an API‑first approach, collaborate closely with SREs, platform teams, and product stakeholders, and work extensively with AWS and DataDog. You will also be expected to quickly pick up new projects, work autonomously, and champion modern SRE practices across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Backend Engineering (Java & TypeScript) – Build and maintain high‑quality services and APIs using Java and TypeScript, working on modern frameworks and legacy in‑house frameworks.
  • AWS Cloud Engineering (AWS CDK) – Develop, operate, and understand cloud‑native workloads using AWS services such as Lambda, ECS/EKS, DynamoDB, and S3.
  • Observability & Monitoring (DataDog) – Create and maintain dashboards, alerts, logs, and distributed traces to ensure service health and visibility and use them to fault‑find and investigate issues.
  • CI/CD (GitHub Actions) – Develop, design, and operate continuous integration and continuous delivery processes for testing and deploying software.
  • API‑First Development – Design and work with clear, consistent APIs that support customer journeys and cross‑team integrations.
  • Understanding the Customer Journey – Work with product teams to understand end‑to‑end flows and ensure reliability improvements have meaningful user impact.
  • Adopting SRE Practices – Contribute to building SLIs/SLOs, error budgets, resilience patterns, automation, and operational readiness checks.
  • Rapid Project Onboarding – Quickly understand and contribute to systems, domains, and codebases with minimal ramp‑up time.
  • Operational Excellence – Participate in incident response, root‑cause analysis, and continuous improvement activities to reduce toil and enhance reliability.
Benefits
  • Auto‑enrolled pension scheme after 3 months of service.
  • Salary sacrifice scheme to maximise tax efficiency.
  • 5% employee contribution, matched by 5% from Amplience.
  • Pension broker: Titan Group.
  • Pension provider: Aegon (moved from Aviva in 2024).

  • 25 days paid holiday (standard).
  • Enhanced maternity leave: 12 weeks full pay, 12 weeks at 50% pay, 15 weeks statutory maternity pay, 13 weeks unpaid.

  • Birthday leave: one paid day off during your birthday month.
  • Company‑wide recharge days: one day off per quarter.
  • All roles are laptop‑enabled.
  • Freedom Fridays: finish early on Fridays (full‑time employees only).
  • Holiday buy scheme: purchase up to 5 extra days per year, repaid through salary deductions.
  • Cycle to work scheme, tech scheme, season ticket loan, charity/volunteer days, payroll giving, eyecare reimbursement also available.
