Site Maintenance Assistant / School Caretaker

A great opportunity for an enthusiastic and proactive Site Maintenance Assistant / School Caretaker to support maintenance, cleaning standards, site security and health and safety compliance across a busy school environment.

SALARY: £25,186 per annum plus 14% shift allowance totalling £28,712 per annum + Excellent Benefits

LOCATION: Hedge End, Southampton, Hampshire

JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent

WORKING HOURS: 37 hours per week, 52 weeks per year, worked on a rotating shift pattern (shift pattern to be agreed at appointment)

JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Site Maintenance Assistant / School Caretaker who will help maintain a clean, safe and welcoming environment while supporting daily operations across the school site.

As a Site Maintenance Assistant / School Caretaker you will carry out general repairs, routine maintenance and compliance checks, ensuring all facilities remain operational, secure and health and safety standards are met.

The Site Maintenance Assistant / School Caretaker will work closely with the maintenance team, using initiative to solve problems, manage priorities and provide practical support such as moving furniture, managing deliveries and maintaining lighting and heating systems.

Full health and safety training will be provided.

DUTIES
  • General Repairs and Maintenance: Supporting upkeep of buildings, equipment and fixtures
  • Health and Safety Compliance: Completing routine checks with full training provided
  • Site Security: Acting as a key holder and ensuring the site is safe and secure
  • Operational Support: Setting up rooms, moving furniture and managing deliveries
  • Building Systems: Ensuring lighting and heating systems are fully operational
  • Team Support: Working collaboratively with the site and maintenance team
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
ESSENTIAL
  • Manual Handling: Comfortable with lifting, moving and handling duties
  • Proactive Approach: Able to use initiative and solve problems confidently
  • Organisational Skills: Strong time management and ability to prioritise
  • Team Working: Positive contributor to the wider school community
  • Flexibility: Willing to work varied shifts to support school needs
  • Confidentiality: Maintains professionalism and discretion at all times
DESIRABLE
  • Trade Skills: Experience in any maintenance trade area
  • Facilities Experience: Background in site operations or building upkeep
  • Compliance Knowledge: Experience with safety checks or maintenance logs – Full health and safety training will be provided
