Shell Trading – UK Power Shift Trading – Shift Trader

Shell Trading, one of the world’s largest energy traders, is looking for a Shift Trader to join the UK Power Shift Trading team. The role is part of a 24‑hour shift team that manages the commercial and operational aspects of the SE‑EA power activities in the UK. The successful candidate will work outside normal office hours, including weekends, bank holidays and overnight.

Accountabilities
  • Drive the trading capability of the desk, identifying and executing opportunities to maximise P&L through informed risk‑taking around the asset portfolio and outright market trades.
  • Lead the development of tools and analytics to enhance trading efficiency and decision‑making, including around the renewable portfolio, and upskill the desk to embed best practices.
  • Actively trade interconnector capacities in the short‑term markets, intra‑day and balancing markets.
  • Utilise automated trading systems where feasible to respond instantly to market changes.
  • Coordinate with other desks, functions and system operators to align strategies and manage the portfolio’s exposure, particularly from renewable assets.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and contractual obligations, including REMIT, the Grid Code and Shell policies.
What You Bring
  • Experience trading on exchanges, including qualification to trade UK power on EPEX and managing assets in the UK Balancing Mechanism.
  • Strong quantitative skills and proficiency in sophisticated trading and analytical platforms.
  • In‑depth knowledge of the GB and European energy markets, key market drivers and trading regulations.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering or a related field.
  • Excellent decision‑making abilities, capable of performing under pressure in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Track record of managing risk and delivering profit.
  • A self‑starter who takes ownership of issues and drives resolution.
  • Team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexibility to work as part of a 24/7 shift team in London.
