Shift Manager

Location: Bathford

Salary: £42,000 Per Annum

Our client is recruiting for a Duty Shift Manager to join a high performing manufacturing team. You will coordinate activities on shift to ensure that production targets are met efficiently and safely. You will act as the first level of escalation for issues that cannot be resolved.

Shift Manager Role and Responsibilities:
  • Ensure all reports are managed and have up to date accurate job descriptions; PDRs, SMART objectives linked to business objectives
  • Regular reviews of performance and development need to enhance performance and capability
  • As the Senior Manager on site out of hours you will act as incident commander for the site in the event of an emergency (such as fire, flood etc)
  • Monitor standards across the factory on shift ensuring that all systems and procedures are correctly applied particularly with respect to Health, Safety and Environment, quality, security, HR and housekeeping
  • Drive / support the day-to-day business process such as WIP, over-makes, production planning, material planning and job history and planning
  • Act as mentor and coach giving guidance and advice on the handling of production, projects and HR issues and will attend and lead the morning Operations review meeting
  • Lead on shift for the implementation on lean manufacturing tools such as Quick Kaizen and problem solving. Working closely with Site Leadership Team and Key Project Leaders to ensure that the initiatives are implemented in a consistent and professional manner
  • Act as the focal point on shift for the implementation of projects, actively encouraging participation across the shift, support all Projects which will involve cross shift participation
  • Support each production job through the process to ensure that FMEA, Risk Assessments, Control plans and SSOW are in place for processes
  • Represent customers in production helping to raise the awareness of quality on shift by ensuring good feedback to the HPT’s of issues raised
  • Drive meetings such as the 3C’s Meeting, Shift Safety Meetings and the daily Operations meeting
  • Facilitate and drive the process ensuring that all up and coming jobs are reviewed and planned for working with other stakeholders you will be accountable for the output of this process which does not exclusively include, grade reviews, control plans, risks, spoil and making reviews
  • Have an overview across Operations for OTIF actively on shift to ensure that order cut offs are as accurate as possible
  • Develop own technical expertise to support improvement activity, projects and to help solve production problems
  • Support the SAFE process and procedures ensuring this is delivered and maintained
  • Expected to take up activities, chair meetings and carry out actions delegated by the Papermaking Manager/Mill Manager which are deemed necessary and within the boundaries of such a senior role
  • Organise, control (and regularly review) the sites activities in conjunction with Department Managers in order to ensure the achievement of both day-to-day and longer-term targets with respect to quality, output and costs

The ideal Shift Manager will:
  • Strong understanding of production processes and procedures
  • Good understanding of Lean manufacturing tools and techniques
  • Competent with IT systems and the use of various CRMs, ERPs, and other management systems
  • Track record of performance management and other HR processes
  • Previously improved, driven and demonstrated determination to achieve results
  • NEBOSH Certified (Desirable)
  • Boiler Operation Certificate (Desirable)
Shift Manager Working Hours:

Week 1: Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday 18:00–06:00

Week 2: Friday, Saturday, Sunday 06:00–18:00

Week 3: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 18:00–06:00

Week 4: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 06:00–18:00

Note: 7 Days off in total across the cycle.
