A leading machinery distributor in the UK is looking for a Field Service Engineer to support their food processing machinery. This role involves installation, servicing, and repairing equipment across various customer sites in the UK. Ideal candidates should have a recognised apprenticeship in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering and experience in FMCG. Field Service EngineerMulti-SkilledNorth East

£40,000 – £45,000 + Overtime (OTE £50k–£55k)

The Company

Our client is a leading distributor of premium European food processing machinery across the UK. With global roots in Canada, they now supply cutting-edge technology to fish, meat, and poultry factories worldwide.

Their portfolio covers 10 specialist machinery brands, providing complete solutions for primary, secondary, and further processing. Typical equipment includes:

  • Filleting and portioning machines
  • Dicers and slicers
  • Grinders and mixers
  • Formers and moulders
  • Packaging systems

This is a company that invests heavily in training and prides itself on long-term relationships with both staff and customers.

The Role – Field Service Engineer

As a Field Service Engineer, you will be a key technical expert supporting customers nationwide. You will be responsible for:

  • Installation, service, repair, and commissioning of a wide range of food processing machinery
  • Electrical fault finding, including interpreting and working from electrical drawings
  • Diagnosing and repairing faults on PLCs, HMIs, and 3-phase (up to 415V) systems
  • Running and terminating Ethernet cables and network connections
  • Mechanical work on bearings, shafts, pulleys, chains, conveyors, pneumatics, and hydraulics
  • Completing preventive maintenance schedules to minimise downtime for customers
  • Working away from home up to 4 nights per week, covering sites across the UK
  • Visiting a variety of customer environments including fisheries, poultry farms, and meat processing plants

This is a hands-on, varied role that requires a self-sufficient, customer-focused engineer who enjoys problem solving and working with complex machinery.

Qualifications & Experience

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Recognised apprenticeship or equivalent in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering
  • HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering (preferred)
  • Solid experience within FMCG, ideally in food or packaging machinery environments
  • Knowledge of PLC systems (basic fault finding and I/O diagnostics)
  • Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems (pneumatics, hydraulics, conveyors, motors, drives)
  • Willingness to travel extensively across the UK and stay away during the week
