Are you a dynamic trader with leadership skills and a strong background in underwriting? Aviva is looking for a talented Senior Trading Underwriter to join our Southampton Commercial Trading team. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a growing team, working with brokers in Southampton and surrounding. The role is predominantly based in Southampton, one of our key trading locations, and you will benefit from Aviva’s smart working arrangements, offering a blend of home and office working.

As a Senior Trading Underwriter, you’ll provide an outstanding service to our customers and brokers. You’ll drive New and/or Existing business and professional relationships, directly contributing to the underwriting profit and loss, trading, and service delivery goals. In addition to this, you’ll also be responsible for mentoring and coaching colleagues within the team and creating tailor‑made solutions for our customers. This role could be ideal for you if you’re a dynamic trader with leadership skills, a strong industry‑led background, and a track record of winning new business.

• Relationship Building: Develop positive relationships with customers and brokers, providing technical support and handling queries.
• Influence and Engagement: Influence key market contacts through business development and customer engagement.
• Customer‑Centric Solutions: Understand customer needs to provide appropriate solutions that align with Aviva’s underwriting strategy and values.
• Leadership and Mentorship: Act as a role model, mentor colleagues, and contribute to capability improvement.
• Strategy Implementation and Technical Authority: Implement underwriting strategy, improve underwriting quality, serve as the technical authority within the team, and apply core insurance principles to everyday situations.

Skills and experience we’re looking for

• Underwriting Expertise: Strong underwriting knowledge (Fleet preferred but not essential) with a proven track record of winning and retaining business. Experience in real estate, specialty lines, fleet & motor trade is desirable.
• Process Improvement: Experience in applying underwriting knowledge to improve processes and procedures.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ability to manage underwriting caseload within a regulatory environment.
• Business Development: Excellent skills in business development and customer engagement.
• Communication & Qualifications: Strong communication and negotiation skills, with a Diploma in CII or willingness to study for and obtain CII qualifications.
