About the role

The Senior Technology Contract Manager for software, will play a pivotal role in a newly established function responsible for overseeing all technology contracts within the organization. This position ensures that the business maximises value from software agreements, drives cost efficiencies through strategic negotiation, and maintains compliance with contractual obligations. You will collaborate closely with IT service owners, Procurement, and Legal teams to align technology requirements with optimal commercial outcomes. Reporting to the Head of Asset & Contract Management, this role will lead a small team.

Key responsibilities
  • Contract Management & Negotiation
    • Lead negotiations with software vendors to secure favourable terms, pricing, and conditions.
    • Review, draft, and manage software contracts, ensuring alignment with business objectives and compliance requirements.
    • Maintain a comprehensive repository of software agreements and monitor renewal timelines.
  • Vendor & Stakeholder Engagement
    • Build strong relationships with key software vendors and internal stakeholders.
    • Partner with IT service owners to understand technology requirements and translate them into effective contractual solutions.
    • Act as the primary point of contact for contractual escalations and dispute resolution.
  • Governance & Compliance
    • Ensure adherence to contractual obligations, licensing terms, and regulatory requirements.
    • Implement best practices for software contract governance and risk management.
    • Support audits and internal reviews related to software licensing and compliance.
  • Financial Optimization
    • Identify opportunities for cost savings and value optimization across software portfolios.
    • Analyze spend patterns and recommend strategies for consolidation, renegotiation, or alternative sourcing.
  • Team Leadership
    • Manage and develop a small team.

Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and professional development within the team.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Essential
  • Extensive experience in software contract management and negotiation within a large, complex organization.
  • Deep understanding of software licensing models (e.g., SaaS, perpetual, subscription) and deal structures.
  • Strong knowledge of major software vendors and market trends.
  • Familiarity with contractual language, legal terms, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Proven ability to deliver cost efficiencies and optimise vendor relationships.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills.
Desirable
  • Experience working in retail or technology-driven environments.
  • Knowledge of IT service management and software asset management principles.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., ITIL, SAM, or contract management qualifications).
