Materials Analysis – NMR Expert (Technologist)

Materials Analysis is an Oxford Instruments Group Business Unit that develops and sells state‑of‑the‑art electron, mechanical and benchtop microscopy, Raman spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) products.

Overview

We are looking for an experienced NMR Expert to join our New Product Development team in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. The role will focus on future product innovations, technical solutions for existing NMR instruments and capability building for the NMR team.

Location and working hours

High Wycombe (Cressex) – hybrid working, 3 days in the office and 2 days from home. 37‑hour week with flexible hours and Friday finish at 12:30.

What we are looking for
  • Appropriate degree in Physical Science or Engineering (further degree an advantage)
  • High competence with NMR hardware and system‑level troubleshooting at the sub‑modular level
  • Strong investigative skills – align experimental work with theory, diagnose faults, design experiments
  • Experience with modern testing and diagnostic methods and equipment
  • Ability to implement and maintain safe working procedures (COSHH, fluid systems, electrical and magnetic safety)
  • Knowledge of intellectual property, Freedom‑to‑Operate and patent communication
  • Excellent technical communication – translate complex expertise to others
Responsibilities
  • Deliver technology enhancements in accordance with agreed specifications, budgets and timelines (feasibility studies, cost estimates, prototypes, production methods)
  • Contribute to technology and development projects
  • Maintain professional awareness of relevant technology developments
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for existing products
  • Operate in accordance with health & safety legislation at all times
