Role Overview: As a Senior Social Worker in the Duty and Assessment Team, you will undertake statutory assessments to determine risk and need for children and families. You will manage complex and high‑risk cases, make timely and informed decisions, and provide professional guidance and support to less experienced social workers to ensure robust safeguarding practice.

What You Will Do:

  • Undertake Section 17 (Child in Need) and Section 47 (Child Protection) assessments within statutory timescales.
  • Respond promptly to new referrals, including emergency and same‑day safeguarding concerns.
  • Complete visits, interviews, and direct work with children and families to assess risk, need, and protective factors.
  • Make clear, evidence‑based recommendations regarding thresholds and next steps.
  • Identify, assess, and manage risks to children, ensuring timely and appropriate interventions.
  • Initiate and progress child protection enquiries and contribute to strategy discussions and meetings.
  • Prepare high‑quality reports for Initial Child Protection Conferences, legal planning meetings, and court when required.
  • Support management with screening and decision‑making on referrals, offering reflective guidance and case direction.
  • Work collaboratively with police, health, education, early help, and partner agencies to ensure effective safeguarding responses.
  • Attend and contribute to multi‑agency meetings and professional forums.
