Join the Referral and Assessment (R&A) team at the London Borough of Bromley, where you will play a vital role in protecting vulnerable children and shaping the outcomes for families in our borough.

The Role

The Referral and Assessment team is the first point of contact for all new concerns about children who may be at risk. This is a fast-paced and high-profile service that requires decisive action, excellent analytical skills, and robust risk management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake complex, high-quality Single Assessments within statutory timescales, ensuring a clear analysis of risk and need.
  • Lead and manage Child Protection investigations under Section 47 of the Children Act 1989.
  • Conduct statutory visits and direct work with children and families to gather essential information and formulate effective plans.
  • Present cases at Initial Child Protection Conferences and actively participate in legal planning meetings.
  • Use your experience to support less experienced colleagues and contribute to the development of best practice within the team.
  • Work collaboratively with key partners including Police, Health, and Education to ensure a coordinated multi-agency response to safeguarding concerns.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records on the service's electronic case management system.

What You Will Bring

We are looking for a dedicated professional who has:

  • Significant post-qualifying experience in a children's services setting, preferably within an R&A or equivalent front-line team.
  • Expert knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Children Act 1989, Working Together to Safeguard Children, and relevant case law.
  • The ability to critically analyse complex information, make sound judgments under pressure, and manage high-risk caseloads effectively.
  • Proven skills in effective written and verbal communication, including the ability to write clear and concise court reports.
  • A commitment to the voice of the child and a strengths-based approach to working with families.
  • Current registration with Social Work England and a recognised Social Work qualification.
  • A full driving licence and access to a vehicle is desirable.
