About Us:

Balfour Beatty is mobilising for major converter station build projects in Peterhead as part of the ASTI Framework, supporting Scotland's and the UK's energy transition. We are looking for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to play a key role in the commercial management of these high‑profile, technically complex energy infrastructure projects.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a Tier‐1 contractor at the forefront of the net zero and energy transmission agenda, offering long‑term project security, local presence in the North East of Scotland, and real scope for progression.

What you’ll be doing

As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will have full commercial responsibility for your area of the project, working closely with the wider project and commercial teams to ensure value, control and compliance throughout the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities include
  • Managing all costs and income within your area of responsibility
  • Preparing and reviewing activity schedules, resource schedules and tender documentation
  • Critically appraising, estimating and negotiating with subcontractors and third parties
  • Monitoring subcontract performance, measurement and commercial reporting
  • Managing change control, including variations and compensation events
  • Preparing, submitting and negotiating claims where required
  • Producing accurate commercial reports, forecasts and financial reconciliations
  • Ensuring compliance with company governance, maximising digital and LEAN opportunities
  • Supporting and mentoring less experienced commercial team members
Who we’re looking for

You’ll be an experienced Senior QS with a strong commercial background, ideally within civils, energy, power or major infrastructure projects, and comfortable operating in a live construction environment.

Essential experience & qualifications
  • BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying (or equivalent experience)
  • Chartered status (MRICS / MCInstCES / MCIOB) or working towards
  • CSCS card (Professional Qualified Person)
  • Proven experience managing costs, change and subcontractor accounts
  • Ability to lead, mentor and develop junior commercial staff
