What is the purpose of this job?

Passenger Assist is the system that enables passengers to request and book assistance when travelling by rail. The Passenger Assist Programme seeks to improve the system and the service, by collaborating with RDG’s technology provider and train operating companies to deliver key enhancements. The programme is focussed on improving the customer experience with the overarching goal of creating a more accessible railway for all.

The Senior Project Manager will lead on the delivery of complex work streams, with a focus on embedding key functionality. This involves coordinating cross‑functional teams, ensuring alignment with programme objectives, and managing the successful integration of cross‑team functionality and the deployment of any other critical features.

What can I expect to do in this job?
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, outlining key milestones, deliverables, and timelines.
  • Oversee the execution of project plans, ensuring tasks are completed on schedule and within budget.
  • Coordinate cross‑functional teams, including developers, testers, business analysts, and external suppliers.
  • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration among team members to ensure project objectives are met.
  • Regularly update stakeholders on project progress, addressing any concerns and incorporating feedback into project plans.
  • Identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies to address them.
  • Monitor risk factors throughout the project lifecycle and adjust plans as necessary to minimise impact.
  • Ensure that project deliverables meet quality standards and comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Allocate resources effectively to ensure optimal project performance.
  • Manage the onboarding and training of new team members, ensuring they are up to speed with project objectives and processes.
  • Track project performance against key metrics and milestones.
  • Prepare and present regular project status reports to senior management and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure all project documentation is up-to-date and accessible to relevant stakeholders.
  • Work with stakeholders on non‑roadmap requests/additional scope changes.
  • Scope shaping and market research, initiation activities in setting and driving workshops and planning sessions.

What experience, skills and knowledge do I need?
  • At least five years’ experience of being a Project Manager within complex programmes.
  • Experience working with programme teams and technology specialists in the creation of digital consumer products (e.g. websites and apps).
  • Strong communications skills, both written and oral, including creating detailed reports, and comprehensive documentation.
  • Proactive and comfortable working through ambiguity.
  • Ability to present a compelling narrative with data to influence stakeholders and implement change.
  • A strong customer first mindset.
