We are looking for a Senior Programme Manager to join a leading main contractor to be based in either Peterborough, Lincoln or Norwich. The Senior Programme Manager will be overseeing a multi-year capital programme exceeding 700m and you'll be tasked with supporting the delivery of works, overall framework performance and the growth and development of the internal team.

Role Overview

This is a senior leadership position accountable for end-to-end programme delivery across design, construction, commissioning and handover. The Senior Programme Manager will have full responsibility for financial performance, safety, programme governance, stakeholder alignment and people development. The successful candidate will need to be a natural leader who can impose delivery discipline while building and guiding a high‑performing multidisciplinary team. The role will require travel to offices between Peterborough, Lincoln and Norwich.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead programme delivery, ensuring scope, schedule, cost and quality targets are met.
  • Own programme budgets, forecasts and commercial performance.
  • Build and develop a high‑calibre delivery team; embed performance improvement culture.
  • Drive SHE performance and maintain robust compliance against all statutory requirements.
  • Govern project submissions to ensure right‑first‑time planning and reporting.
  • Align strategy and delivery plans with broader business and operational objectives.
  • Oversee resource deployment in partnership with functional leads.
  • Strengthen relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders.
  • Champion innovation, digital systems and continuous improvement across delivery.
  • Shape and influence supply chain strategy to secure required capability.
Essential Requirements
  • Degree‑qualified or equivalent in Engineering, Quantity Surveying or related discipline.
  • Proven senior‑level programme management experience in multidisciplined construction.
  • Track record delivering large‑scale capital portfolios with full P&L accountability.
  • Evidence of strong leadership, team development and performance management.
  • Commercially astute with experience driving margin, efficiency and gainshare outcomes.
  • Demonstrable success improving safety performance and operational standards.
  • High‑level stakeholder engagement capability with influencing authority.
  • Strong analytical, governance and problem‑sol skills.
Desirable Requirements
  • Experience in the water sector.
  • Broad understanding of regulatory and operational frameworks.
  • Skilled in negotiating complex commercial and delivery landscapes.
