Anexciting opportunity has arisen for a 0.8 WTE (30.0 hours) SeniorPhysiotherapist to join the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust (LTHT) OutpatientsProsthetic Service. We are looking for a highly motivated physiotherapist,who is innovative with a commitment to excellence, incorporates education,audit and research. The successful applicant must be able to demonstratespecialist clinical knowledge around prosthetics and amputee rehabilitation.They will also be responsible for their own continuous, personal andprofessional development and will be expected to follow the Leeds Way valuesof the organisation (Collaborative, Fair, Accountable, and Empowered) andmodel these behaviours within their role.

TheProsthetic Service is one of the largest in the UK and has a full complementof highly skilled Consultants, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists,Clinical Psychologists, Prosthetists, Technical Instructors and ProstheticsTechnicians who specialise in the treatment of adult and paediatric amputees.

TheProsthetics Service is part of the Wider Specialist Rehabilitation Servicewhich also includes Leeds Wheelchair Service and Leeds Orthotic Service allof which are part of the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust (LTHT).

Thispost is currently 0.8 WTE (30.0 hours) but may be increased to 1.0 WTE (37.5hours) in the future however this is not guaranteed.

Main duties of the job

Workautonomously as a Band 6 Specialist Physiotherapist, maintainingprofessional, legal & ethical accountability for assessing, treating& rehabilitating patients with upper & lower limb loss, difference orabsence, including those with complex or long-term conditions. Completecomprehensive assessments & apply advanced clinical reasoning to developaccurate diagnoses, prognoses & deliver individualised rehabilitationboth pre & post prosthetic provision using evidence-based interventionssuch as gait training, strengthening, balance, functional rehabilitation,pain management & education. Manage a specialist caseload independently,prioritise workload effectively, demonstrate advanced manual handling skills& contribute to out-of-hours services as required.

Support& supervise Band 5 physiotherapists, assistants & students,contributing to teaching, service development, audit & qualityimprovement. Ensure practice aligns with evidence-based guidance, Trustpolicies & professional standards, maintaining accurate documentation,outcome measures & ongoing CPD.

Maintain& develop specialist knowledge, support service & policy development,participate in appraisal & work collaboratively within themultidisciplinary team. Contribute to audit, research, clinical governance,risk management & service improvement. Ensuring safe equipment use,effective time management, accurate record keeping & compliance withhealth & safety & Trust policies.

Clinical

Work autonomously as a Band 6Specialist Physiotherapist, maintaining professional, legal, and ethicalaccountability for the assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of patientswith limb loss.

Undertake comprehensivephysiotherapy assessments of patients following upper and lower limbamputation, including those with complex, multi-pathological, and long-termconditions (e.g. vascular disease, diabetes, trauma).

Use advanced clinical reasoning andinvestigative skills to formulate accurate diagnoses, prognoses, andindividualised rehabilitation and prosthetic preparation programmes.

Develop, implement, and evaluateevidence-based physiotherapy treatment plans, including pre-prosthetic andprosthetic rehabilitation, gait re-education, strengthening, balancetraining, functional rehabilitation, pain management, and patient education.

Demonstrate advanced manualtherapy, palpation, and handling skills to assess and treat residual limbconditions, musculoskeletal complications, and secondary impairments.

Manage a specialist caseloadindependently, prioritising workload effectively in line with clinical risk,service demand, and patient-centred goals.

Participate in the delivery of anout-of-hours and weekend physiotherapy service as required.

Educationand Training

Support and supervise Band 5physiotherapists, therapy assistants, and students, providing clinicalguidance and informal teaching within the specialty.

Contribute to service development,audit, and quality improvement initiatives within amputee rehabilitation.

Ensure clinical practice isevidence-based and in line with national guidance, Trust policies, andprofessional standards.

Maintain accurate, timely clinicaldocumentation and outcome measures to support patient care and serviceevaluation.

Demonstrate commitment tocontinuing professional development and maintaining specialist skills withinamputee rehabilitation.

Person Specification
Experience
  • Post graduate clinical experience including relevant core area and relevant specialist rotations including both in and outpatient areas
  • Post Graduate clinical experience working with patients with limb loss and prosthetic rehabilitation as in or outpatient.
  • Knowledge and experience in a range of approaches to the management of patient in this area of practice.
  • Involvement in audit and an understanding of research and quality issues.
  • Experience of clinical education of staff students or assistants with development of basic supervision skills.
  • Ability to participate in the organisation of internal / external clinical courses
