Overview

Fichtner is a global engineering consultancy established in 1922 with over 2000 employees over 170 countries. Within the UK and Ireland our engineers and consultants are involved in some of the most innovative energy projects across the UK providing design, intellectual, and engineering services to developers, investors, owners, and operators. Projects in development, construction, or operation in the UK and Ireland, include more than: 60 major thermal power plants, across the waste, biomass, and conventional power sectors,10 GWh of battery storage, 5 GW of solar, 7 GW of on-shore and off-shore wind, 5 GWh of pumped storage hydro projects, 20 carbon capture projects, aiming to capture and permanently sequestrate more than 5 million tonnes of CO2 per annum. We are now looking to recruit an experienced Senior Engineer who has a mechanical engineering degree coupled with experience in the detailed design and/or manufacturing of process equipment to support our ongoing support to industrial decarbonisation projects.

Responsibilities

The Senior Engineer will contribute to the design and delivery of process equipment and associated systems for industrial decarbonisation projects, including:

  • Provide detailed design and/or manufacturing support for process equipment, heat exchangers or piping systems/pressure parts used in gas refining, industrial gas production and use, gaseous chemical production, and CO2 capture and storage.
  • Work on process and mechanical systems in power stations.
  • Prepare and review mechanical designs for process plants, including heat and mass balances, basis of design documents, process calculations, material selection, functional descriptions, equipment data sheets, technical specifications and cause/effect charts.
  • Apply good understanding of process plant layout, pipework routing and arrangement, and process safety principles.
  • Ensure compliance with quality control systems applicable to process plant design and manufacturing.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, material science and strength of materials and structures.
  • Travel within the UK and occasionally overseas as required.
Qualifications
  • a good degree in Mechanical Engineering;
  • ideally a Chartered Engineer;
  • good practical experience in the detailed design and/or manufacturing of process equipment, heat exchangers or piping systems/pressure parts, with application to the following sectors:
  • gas refining
  • industrial gas production and use
  • gaseous chemical production
  • CO2 capture and storage
  • process and mechanical systems in power stations
  • full right to work in the UK; and
  • the ability and willingness to travel both in the UK and occasionally overseas.
