Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer

Location: Devonport, Plymouth, Rosyth, Fife, Bristol

Compensation: £51,720 - £63,443 + Benefits

Role Type: Full time / Permanent

Role

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in designing and optimising marine auxiliary systems for complex naval shipbuilding projects. This is your chance to influence design quality, improve build efficiency, and integrate emerging technologies into next‑generation vessels. Your work will directly contribute to national security and help shape the future of naval engineering.

Day‑to‑day, you’ll have the following responsibilities:

  • Lead and support the design, analysis, and substantiation of marine auxiliary systems
  • Ensure compliance with naval standards, classification society rules, and defence‑specific requirements
  • Produce and review engineering outputs, including P&IDs, schematics, and equipment specifications
  • Conduct hazard assessments and FMEAs
  • Provide engineering support during production and commissioning, resolving non‑compliances and integration issues

This role is full time and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.

Essential Experience
  • Proven experience in naval or marine engineering projects, with strong knowledge of auxiliary systems design and integration
  • Ability to deliver engineering solutions to time, cost, and quality standards
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with experience using engineering tools (e.g., CAD, FlowMASTER, FluidFlow).
Qualifications
  • Degree in Marine, Mechanical, or a related engineering discipline (Master’s desirable)
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership with a relevant professional institution (e.g., RINA, IMechE, IMarEst, IET)
