Job description
Overview

Nurseries Limited is seeking a Senior Management Accountant to join our busy finance team at our Head Office in Ampfield. This is a fixed-term, 12-month contract to provide both maternity cover and dedicated support for the Head of Finance during the implementation of our new finance system.

The role offers a competitive salary of £50,000 per annum and presents an excellent opportunity for a qualified accountant to contribute to a well-established, values-driven business. This is a full-time role based at our Hillier Support Centre in Ampfield, near Romsey. Applicants must be able to commute to this location with occasional travel to other business locations will be required.

Responsibilities
  • Reviewing profit & loss and providing supporting commentary
  • Processing month-end journals (accruals and prepayments)
  • Analysing utility spend
  • Oversee month-end processes for Sales and Purchase Ledgers
  • Conducting cost and variance analysis; authorising purchase invoices
  • Performing balance sheet reconciliations
  • Supervising the trainee accountant in relevant tasks
  • Acting as a business partner to retail and nursery operations, proving key data and insights into trading performance
  • Supporting the Head of Finance in the annual budgeting process
  • Coordinating the year-end audit, liaising with auditors and internal teams
  • Producing ad hoc reports and undertaking finance-related projects
  • Carrying out additional duties as required by management
Qualifications and Attributes
  • Degree-level education in a numerate discipline
  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, CIMA, or ACCA)
  • Minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience (PQE)
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong team player with a flexible approach
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365, especially Excel
  • Strong analytical and numerical capabilities
  • Demonstrates integrity and professional ethics
  • Effective communicator, both written and verbal
  • Able to present financial information to non-financial stakeholders
