Job Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Learning Disability Nurse to join our Unscheduled Care team at HMP Garth, a Category B prison in Lancashire with a capacity of about 800 male inmates. This role is based primarily in the Healthcare Department but may involve ward work as required.

Key responsibilities include responding to the Mental Health Team Manager’s directives, managing a caseload of adults with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour, and working within the criminal justice setting to provide person‑centred care. You will assess, plan and coordinate positive non‑aversive behavioural approaches in partnership with the multi‑disciplinary team.

Responsibilities
  • Complete a responsibility for a caseload and deliver nursing care for adults with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour in a secure environment.
  • Provide care to adults whose behaviours have brought them into contact with the criminal justice system.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to conduct person‑centred behavioural assessments, planning and coordination of positive non‑aversive behavioural interventions.
Qualifications
  • Current NMC registration as a Learning Disability Nurse.
  • Experience working face‑to‑face with patients with complex mental health conditions.
  • Knowledge of psychosocial interventions, group work and substance‑misuse awareness.
  • Sound clinical knowledge and assessment skills, including risk assessment.
  • Experience in a hospital, community or prison environment is desirable but not essential.
