Job Description Summary

Title: Senior Investment Operations Manager

Location(s): Edinburgh, Leeds, Halifax or Bristol

HOURS: Full-time

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites.

Are you passionate about delivering operational excellence in pensions investment? This is a fantastic opportunity to join the Group Pensions team and lead the investment operations function across our Defined Benefit (DB) and Defined Contribution (DC) schemes.

This is a pivotal role in managing key supplier relationships, overseeing asset transitions, and driving process improvements that enhance outcomes for our Defined Benefit (DB) and Defined Contribution (DC) pension scheme members and stakeholders. Working closely with the Chief Investment Officer and other internal teams, this role will shape the future of investment operations in a dynamic and evolving pensions landscape.

Responsibilities
  • Facilitate cash movements within DB schemes to meet pension payments, investment calls, and changes, while forecasting short-term cash requirements (up to 6–9 months ahead).
  • Manage relationships with global custody providers delivering custody, accounting, and collateral services.
  • Liaise with investment managers’ operational teams and external Operational Due Diligence (ODD) suppliers.
  • Monitor investment costs and coordinate with external partners such as longevity swap providers and consulting firms.
  • Lead asset transitions for DB and DC schemes, ensuring secure and efficient execution.
  • Oversee operational interactions with investment managers and provide ODD oversight.
  • Continuously improve operational processes, ensuring robust controls and efficiencies.
  • Champion best practices and regulatory compliance, adapting procedures to industry standards and emerging technologies.
  • Provide guidance and support to team members, fostering a culture of learning and growth.
  • Monitor the investment landscape and identify areas of change, such as use of blockchain technology to support collateral management.
What you'll need
  • Extensive experience in investment operations, ideally within asset management or large UK DB schemes.
  • Experience in DC transformation projects and operational oversight.
  • Strong supplier and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proven track record in contributing to large-scale change projects.
  • People management experience and ability to lead cross-functional collaboration.
In-depth knowledge of:
  • Global custody operations
  • Collateral management
  • Longevity swaps
  • Asset transitions for DB and DC schemes
  • Cash operations and money market fund selection
  • DC scheme operations, including error correction
