The Regional Hyperacute Rehabilitation Unit (RHRU) forms the hub of the North West regional rehabilitation service network and acts as a central focus for research and training of all professions in rehabilitation. RHRU is one of 8 rehabilitation units forming the level 1 specialist services within the NHS London.The Regional Rehabilitation Unit is a growing 24 bed inpatient neurological unit that offers intensive multi-disciplinary neuro‑rehabilitation to adults with severe and complex cognitive, communicative and physical difficulties. This may be due to traumatic brain injury, CVA or other neurological conditions. You could be working as part of a highly skilled multi‑disciplinary team specialising in Neuro‑Rehabilitation and Hyper‑Acute Neuro care. Providing holistic, patient centred, goal focused rehabilitation to patients with a variety of Neurological conditions. We offer the opportunity to work within a specialist team (Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Clinical Psychologist, Speech and Language therapist, Social Services , Dietitian and Rehabilitation Consultant) who are all committed to delivering quality patient care with a strong focus on staff development from clinical supervision including opportunities for training and development of your competencies and knowledge for the post leading to opening to specialise in this area of specialist medicine.

Main duties of the job

The Health Care Assistant (Band 3) is the second step on the skills escalator of unregistered practitioners. This level of practitioner will have extensive experience at HCA Band 2 with an appreciation and knowledge of the unit procedures, competencies, is able to organise day to day activities/interventions based on agreed allocated work plan.

This role will
  • Support Registered nurses in the provision of safe and effective patient care, to meet the needs of patients and their families
  • Implement and deliver care under the guidance of a Registered Nurse supported by on‑going clinical supervision
  • Establish and maintain communication with a range of people on a range of issues appropriate to them and the situation
  • Report changes noted in patients condition and any concerns expressed by patient/ families to the registered nurse
  • Maintain quality in own work and encourage others to do the same
  • Contribute to the improvement of services
  • Develop own knowledge and skills, and provide information and support to others to help their development
  • Records patient observations and initiates appropriate basic nursing and therapy interventions
  • Performs clerical and administrative duties in the absence of the ward clerk
  • Works co‑operatively with others in the unit in ensuring good inter‑disciplinary team work to meet the needs of patients with severe complex neuro disability, and their families
  • Perform housekeeping duties as delegated by the Clinical Nurse Manager
