Job Description:

Senior Hardware Design Engineer

You will be joining a small, dynamic team continually designing and developing world-beating products. As a Senior Hardware Design Engineer, you will be expected to join our RF and Hardware group and be involved in the full product lifecycle, including requirements, design, test, release, and support of new digital, analogue, and RF designs.

This is an opportunity to work in a fast-paced but rewarding environment on RF Technologies across exciting markets, including defense and aerospace.

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities):
  • Design of electronic circuits, subsystems, and systems of varying complexity crossing analog, digital, and RF (desirable) domains.
  • Schematic capture.
  • Layout capture.
  • Footprint/symbol creation.
  • Maintenance and update of Altium Library and templates.
  • Scoping of new systems and technologies for feasibility and product design.
  • Managing external design houses and resources as required.

Technical Support and Testing:

  • Production and manufacturing assistance as required.
  • Troubleshooting hardware and system issues across the business.
  • Self-testing and troubleshooting of your own designs.
  • Testing, troubleshooting, and updating existing designs.
  • Complete Design Reviews.
  • Verification of designs against requirements.
  • Mentoring lower-grade engineers.

Documentation and Communication:

  • Providing task time estimates and risk considerations.
  • Weekly stand-up meetings.
  • Organizing and leading technical projects and design reviews.
  • Participating in meetings led by others.
  • Contributing to processes and procedures.
  • Creating design documentation and user manuals.
  • Assisting project leads with planning.
  • Collaborating with engineering teams and other disciplines.
What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education):

We seek someone with:

Required Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years in a similar role.
  • Skills in digital circuit design, including microprocessors, FPGAs, and high-speed peripherals.
  • Analogue circuit design experience, such as power supplies.
  • Layout experience.
  • EMC and CE marking experience.
  • Design for IPC.
  • Practical PCB bring-up and testing experience.
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic, a good team player, and able to work under pressure.
Preferred Experience:
  • Minimum 7 years in a similar role.
  • Experience with Altium Designer.
  • Basic embedded firmware skills.
  • Experience designing for military or airborne applications.
  • Experience with MIL-STD and DO160 testing and verification.
  • Test equipment experience (oscilloscopes, analyzers, signal generators).
Education & Certifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electronics or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Master's degree preferred.
Security:
  • British Citizen or ability to obtain security clearance.
  • Travel unlikely.
  • Onsite work with flexible work-from-home policies.
