Service Care Legal are working with a local authority in East London is seeking an experienced Governance Lawyer to advise on complex constitutional and governance issues at the heart of local decision-making.

Role

Senior Governance Lawyer

Location / Rate / Contract

Location: East London

Rate: £45-55ph LTD (£48.46ph PAYE inc. holiday pay, £43.24ph PAYE exc. Holiday pay)

Contract: 3 months with possibility of extension, 36 hours per week

Key Responsibilities
  • Advise council officers, Cabinet Members, committees, and elected members on governance and constitutional matters.
  • Support the Monitoring Officer and Deputy Monitoring Officer with statutory responsibilities.
  • Provide legal insight on FOI, subject access requests, and regulatory complaints.
  • Ensure decision-making meets the highest standards of transparency and good governance.
About You / Qualifications
  • Qualified solicitor, barrister, or chartered legal executive.
  • Strong knowledge of local government law and governance frameworks.
  • Experience supporting Monitoring Officers with statutory duties.
