Senior Finance Assistant / Accounts Assistant

An excellent opportunity has arisen to join our team at West Granton Housing Co-operative, a well-established not-for-profit housing provider in Edinburgh. This varied part-time role offers responsibility across bookkeeping, payroll support and statutory reporting.

SALARY: £34,745 to £37,984 per annum FTE (Pro Rata) + Benefits

JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Senior Finance Assistant / Accounts Assistant to provide essential financial support at West Granton Housing Co-operative.

As a Senior Finance Assistant / Accounts Assistant you will manage purchase and sales ledger tasks, reconcile accounts, and liaise with external finance agents while ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.

The Senior Finance Assistant / Accounts Assistant role also includes supporting payroll processes, preparing reports and returns, and assisting with audits and budgets, making this a dynamic and rewarding opportunity within the co-operative.

ABOUT US

West Granton Housing Co-operative Limited (WGHC) was formed in 1990 by residents of the West Granton area of north Edinburgh to provide new rented housing in an area dominated by low demand council housing.

The deck access blocks in West Granton were demolished and a phased redevelopment of the area took place. We now own 372 properties and two play park areas.

We are community based with all our stock based in North Edinburgh between the Forthquarter development at the Waterfront, Granton and Ferry Road Avenue.

DUTIES

Your duties as the Senior Finance Assistant / Accounts Assistant include:

  • Financial Transactions: Manage purchase and sales ledgers, invoicing, and reconciliations
  • Cash Management: Monitor receipts, prepare deposits, and reconcile bank statements
  • Payments: Record invoices, process supplier payments, and administer petty cash
  • Payroll Support: Collate payroll data and liaise with financial agents for salary processing
  • Audit Preparation: Assist with internal controls and external audit requirements
  • Reports: Support the preparation of budgets, management accounts, and statutory returns
  • Membership Administration: Maintain membership registers and certificates
  • Systems Use: Work with accounting and housing management systems to maintain accuracy
  • Compliance: Ensure financial procedures align with regulations and best practice
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL

  • Proven experience of purchase and sales ledger management
  • Experience with reconciliations and resolving financial queries
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Previous experience of using accounting software
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to manage a varied workload and meet deadlines

DESIRABLE

  • Experience of working within social housing
  • Familiarity with working alongside a financial agent
  • Knowledge of financial reporting in a not-for-profit environment
