Covering much of the rural area of outstanding natural beauty in East Sussex, the service area borders and surrounds Eastbourne and Hastings, and includes the towns of Bexhill, Crowborough, Uckfield, Battle, Hailsham, and Rye.

The Community Protection team is responsible for investigating a wide range of complex nuisance complaints and related issues. This includes responding to planning and licensing consultations, Pollution Prevention Control matters, assessing and considering air quality, and complaints related to conditions in the private rented sector. We offer a supportive environment with a strong commitment to ongoing training and career development.

The Council wants people to live in a safe and fair community and to protect public health. Our Service has a crucial role in helping to deliver this aim.

The Community Protection team sits within a traditional Environmental Health Service, working alongside the Food, Health and Safety, and Licensing Teams. There are offices based in both Hailsham and Bexhill. Members of the team work flexibly, combining work from home with site visits and working from the office at least 2 days a week.

We will consider applications from officers who may be interested in a part time role and from Environmental Health graduates who are yet to complete their professional registration (please note that salary will be adjusted accordingly in such cases).
