Job Title: Senior Engineering Manager – Functional Safety & Cyber Security

Location: Skelmersdale

Our Vision & Why It Matters

At Alexander Dennis, our vision is to lead the evolution of sustainable on road mass transportation and mobility.

We design, deliver, and support market leading buses and coaches that help reduce emissions, improve air quality, and keep communities connected. Every role contributes to that mission whether you’re engineering, driving sales, improving production, or supporting our customers.

What You’ll Do

As Senior Engineering Manager – Functional Safety & Cyber Security, you’ll be the principal authority for safety and security across our electrical and electronic systems. You’ll lead a team of engineers (plus outsourced partners), define and embed standards, and oversee the full functional safety and cyber security lifecycle. From hazard and threat analysis to system-level verification, you’ll guide critical projects that keep our products safe, compliant, and future-ready.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone with proven experience in safety and/or cyber security engineering (e.g. IEC 61508, ISO 26262, ISO 21448, ISO/SAE 21434) and familiarity with homologation standards such as UN ECE R155 and R156. You’ll bring a background in electrical/electronic system design, integration, and testing—ideally from automotive, bus, coach, HGV, or another complex safety-critical environment. Strong leadership, analytical thinking, and excellent communication skills are essential, along with the ability to inspire and guide multidisciplinary teams.

Bonus if you have: Formal certification as a Functional Safety or Cyber Security professional (e.g. TÜV Rheinland), experience with Siemens Polarion, and a track record of representing your organisation on cross-company or industry-wide initiatives.
