Job summary

A community support organization in the West Midlands is seeking a dedicated professional to support Adult Males on Probation. The role involves delivering tailored sessions, building therapeutic relationships, and liaising with Probation Practitioners to ensure client needs are met. Ideal candidates will have a strong understanding of substance misuse issues, excellent communication skills, and be proactive in their approach. Job description
About the role
  • Support referred Adult Males who are a Person on Probation (PoP) in the NPS region by delivering a range of tailored sessions and final activities addressing the referral requirements and timeframes, based on an agreed Action Plan with PoP.
  • Build therapeutic relationships and deliver a tailor‑made package.
  • Include support from the CGL Directory of Services including: Recognised psychosocial interventions; 1 to 1 key work, pod and group work; Harm minimisation and brief interventions.
  • Creating a PoP Action Plan to meet the differing intensity requirements of Low, Medium, or High identified by the referring Probation Practitioner.
  • Updating the National Probation Service Customer Approved System each working day after each PoP contact.
  • Completing final session with PoP, gathering feedback on provision.
  • Liaising with Probation Practitioners, including notification of completion of Action Plan.
  • Report nonattendance to Probation Practitioner for consideration of breach of conditions.
  • Assess suitability for group work in terms of safeguarding risk and special requirements.
  • Carry out risk assessments and risk management.
  • Triage assessment and onward referral to a range of treatment / community support agencies.
  • To be creative and innovative so that the post best meets the needs of the PoP promoting access into treatment, and continued engagement with under‑represented communities.
  • Ensure that all aspects of confidentiality are adhered to and that consent to share information is a key element of building trusting therapeutic alliances.
  • The post holder may be required to carry out additional duties to this job description (usually contained with the posts above and below this role); JDs for these roles can be made available.
About you
  • Have a strong understanding of substance misuse issues and experience of working within a similar field.
  • Be an excellent communicator, both verbal and written with good IT skills.
  • Proactive and able to work on own initiative with excellent time management and prioritising skills.
  • Have a good working knowledge of mental health interventions, services, and good practice.
  • Be a supportive team player with strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in partnership with a wide range of professionals, agencies, and internal / external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage change successfully in a way that prioritises the needs of service users.
  • Understand the importance of information governance processes and commit to following and applying all necessary safeguards.
  • Seek out learning opportunities to improve and broaden your professional knowledge and skills and to contribute and oversee the learning and development of others.
