Overview
We are seeking a Senior Data Architect to lead enterprise-wide data architecture for a complex Defence digital transformation programme. The role will focus on developing robust, secure, and future-proofed data strategies and models, ensuring interoperability across multiple COTS and bespoke systems. This is a high-impact role requiring both strategic vision and hands-on expertise in designing enterprise data ecosystems, setting standards, and guiding stakeholders at all levels.
Responsibilities
- Define and govern enterprise data architecture across medical, logistics, and operational domains
- Develop conceptual, logical, and physical data models for integration across complex application landscapes
- Map data dependencies, ensuring secure interoperability and reducing duplication/cost
- Lead strategy for data repository and integration hub design, aligning with programme governance
- Define master and reference data frameworks across domains (health, personnel, logistics, operational)
- Establish metadata and data quality management standards, ensuring compliance with defence and healthcare standards
- Oversee the full data lifecycle (ingestion, storage, curation, distribution, archival, destruction)
- Provide architectural input into programme boards and Technical Design Authority (TDA) processes
- Influence and mentor technical teams while engaging with senior stakeholders to shape enterprise-wide data strategy
Required qualifications
- Proven experience as a Senior or Enterprise Data Architect in large-scale, complex programmes
- Strong expertise in enterprise data modelling (conceptual, logical, physical)
- Track record in delivering secure, integrated data solutions in Defence, government
- Deep knowledge of data standards and interoperability frameworks
- Experience with data governance, metadata management, master data frameworks
- Familiarity with cloud-native, hybrid, and on-premise architectures, including cross-domain secure data flows
- Ability to balance strategy and delivery - from high-level roadmaps to hands-on modelling and design
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, with experience influencing programme boards and C-level decision makers
