Contract duration: 9-10 months with good opportunity for extensions

The business

The role

Working in the commercial legal team and bringing your knowledge of intellectual property law and brand licensing industry practices to support the growth of the Group's brand licensing business.

  • Responsible for drafting and working with Licensing team to negotiate licence agreements with licensees in relation to branded consumer products and branded retail operations;
  • Responding to day-to-day enquiries from internal clients and external counterparties and providing commercially minded legal advice in relation to licensing matters;
  • Supporting commercial teams in their ongoing management of the licensing agreement (including acting as the Legal team point of contact on the matters you are working on)
  • Preparing know how on relevant legal/contractual issues and running department-wide training sessions to share know-how;
  • Creating and updating template documents and "playbooks" to make workstreams in this area more efficient;
  • You will also support the business in relation to other commercial agreements, for example in relation to marketing, commercial partnerships and key supplier agreements when required.
  • Opportunity to be involved in wider matters outside of brand licensing and protection
  • Supervising junior lawyers on brand licensing matters when needed.
Experience required
  • Trained and qualified as a lawyer - essential
  • Experience/ grounding in a reputable private practice firm as well as in-house is desirable
  • Worked as part of an in-house legal team with experience of drafting worldwide IP licenses in relation to merchandise, apparel and consumer goods.
  • The successful candidate would likely have 5+ years of relevant post-qualification experience, but we are prepared to consider exceptional candidates outside this range;
  • Strong and varied experience of legal drafting of licensing and other commercial agreements;
  • Ability to work within a fast-paced environment and to tight deadlines;
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of intellectual property law AND brand licensing industry practices is essential.
  • Experience in FMCG/Retail/Luxury Goods or a media/entertainment business with strong merchandising and consumer goods function where brand licensing is a large focus for the business growth.

Please note, whilst other commercial agreements are likely to come up in this role, we are seeking candidates with strong experience and specialism with brand licensing.

Salary: Highly competitive salary and company benefits!

Office: London HQ based - 3 days a week ideally. Please note, fully remote workers will not work for this position.
