Job description

The role of the Senior Nursing Assistant within gynaecology is an exciting opportunity for candidates who thrive working independently as well as supporting the nursing and medical team. The position requires proficiency in both clinical and clerical skills, and involves managing waiting lists, making appointments, handling patient queries (knowledge of Careflow and Iportal desirable but not essential), chaperoning, and maintaining the clinical environment. The post holder works primarily at Royal Stoke alongside gynaecology consultants and the nursing team.

Responsibilities
  • Use initiative and problem‑solve under the guidance of Standard Operating Procedures and protocols.
  • Organise all clerical duties including reception duties, maintenance of computerised and manual record systems, booking appointments, filing, ordering and storing supplies.
  • Manage waiting lists and make appointments while handling patient queries (knowledge of Careflow and Iportal desirable).
  • Chaperone, prepare and maintain the clinical environment for patient admissions and gynaecology outpatient examinations & procedures.
  • Organise the delivery and retrieval of specimens, items & equipment to and from the outreach clinic.
  • Assist with invasive procedures requiring additional training and assessment of competence by a suitable qualified assessor (e.g., bladder scanning, urodynamics assistance).
  • Interpret or analyse clinical data.
  • Communicate relevant information to the relevant consultant and nurse in charge.
  • Demonstrate good customer care skills.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, hazard‑free environment.
  • Work in accordance with Trust policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Supervise and support junior Nursing Assistance/Apprentices and their development.
