Job description
Overview

We have an opportunity for a Senior Clinical Psychologist to join our Older Person's inpatient team for 6 months of sickness cover, to provide leadership and management, specialist assessment and interventions, and support for complex case management. At St George's Park there are 2 older adult mixed gender wards, one functional and one organic. There is currently a full time Higher Assistant Psychologist across both wards and a part time Nurse Systemic practitioner on the functional ward as part of the older adult psychology team. Psychology is very well respected within the North Inpatient CBU, which is reflected in the ongoing expansion of psychological input across the site in acute, rehab and older adults inpatient wards.

The role would suit those who have an interest in working with older adults with both organic and mental health difficulties. We are looking for an enthusiastic clinician with previous inpatient experience, and significant experience in working with MDTs within pressured and busy systems. The post holder will be supervised by the Associate Psychological Services Director.

Responsibilities
  • Provide high quality evidence-based psychological assessments, neuropsychological assessments, formulations and therapy to older adults.
  • Provide assessment, formulation and interventions; supervise neuropsychological assessments in both screening and diagnostically related assessments.
  • Facilitate team formulations across both wards, utilising the Newcastle model on the organic ward.
  • Utilise and develop the full extent of clinical and non-clinical skills, working with people admitted with a broad range of mental health problems.
  • Design and deliver training to ward-based staff and MDT colleagues specifically relevant to their needs.
  • Provide clinical and, at times, management supervision to others.
  • Support staff wellbeing across the MDT, including facilitating team supervision.
  • Be aware there is a permanent resident therapy dog in the department.
Additional context

The service has a strong commitment to CPD and professional development, and we want to nurture each clinician in their career longer term. Within inpatient services, we hold the value of being creative and very much welcome new and improved processes and ideas, particularly around staff wellbeing and how to champion this. We aim to attract and retain a diverse, talented and committed workforce, who are caring and compassionate, and therefore able to meet the demands of the modern NHS now and in the future. In return we can offer a dynamic working environment in which to build a career.
