Job summary

A leading healthcare provider in Woolwich is seeking a Senior Clinical Fellow for a full-time, 6-month position in the Critical Care Unit at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The successful applicant will supervise patient care, work in collaboration with a team of ICU consultants, and participate in daily ward rounds. This role offers the chance to gain valuable experience in a busy unit, admitting approximately 900 patients per year, while covering for a colleague on secondment.

Qualifications

  • Experience in Critical Care or ICU setting required.
  • Ability to work in a team and collaborate effectively with other staff.
  • Knowledge of clinical management plans and patient assessments.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise patient care and support juniors in the ICU.
  • Participate in medical care and present patient cases at handovers.
  • Document care plans with the Critical Care Consultant.
  • Participate in 24-hour supervision and daily ward rounds.
Job description

We are looking for 1 × Senior Clinical fellow at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich ICU. The post is full‑time and is entirely within the Critical Care Unit. This is a fixed‑term post for 6 months and is intended to provide cover while a Senior Clinical fellow colleague undertakes a secondment.

The successful applicant would be required to start in May 2026. The contract is for 6 months finishing end of October 2026.

The successful applicant will work in an EWTD compliant, 1:6 rota with prospective cover of annual and study leave. There are at least 2 juniors on both long days and nights.

The Critical Care Unit has 19 beds of which 6 are isolated. The unit admits approximately 900 patients per year. The unit subscribes to ICNARC.

Responsibilities
  • A team of ICU consultants provide 24‑hour supervision, lead all ward rounds and support the juniors. Assess each patient every day on the ward round and plan patient care under the supervision of the Critical Care Consultant.
  • Participate with the other members of the team in the ongoing medical care of all the patients on the unit.
  • Attend and present patients every morning at the handover round and again each evening at the handover round to the Critical Care Resident on night shift.
  • Document and execute a clinical management plan with the Critical Care Consultant on the unit during the day or on call at night regarding the care of all patients on the unit.
